Logo Samples and Practical Tips

1

Create a memorable design.

Making something unique is the best way to keep your product in the mind of a viewer. Iron Duck’s logo accomplishes this admirably. The clothing line uses a duck image on a clothes hanger to represent both what they sell (clothing) and their name (a literal iron duck).

2

Use an image that evokes your subject.

Words have connotations, or associations that we assign to them that go beyond their literal meaning. Images can have connotations as well, depending on how they are drawn. Considerations like these can help you create a more effective logo. Data Berry’s logo is a great example of this: This minimalist image is intended to evoke both organic and technological concepts at the same time.

3

Create an image within an image.

If you want to make your logo stand out even more, use an image that splits into two separate images. Shoot my Dog’s logo, for example, depicts a person taking a photo, but the position and style make the person appear to be a dog. Make sure your “doubled” image corresponds to your product or subject, and then begin experimenting.

4

Show your product’s purpose.

A logo can be used to provide a shorthand for what you do. Movers do a good job of illustrating this: they have a hand picking up a house, visually representing how they help people move homes.
